Parramatta has started the Jason Ryles era in the greatest possible way—with a victory—following one of the most significant off-season disruptions in the team’s history.
The Eels were missing Mitchell Moses and Zac Lomax, two of their best players, when they played the Knights in Newcastle, but they still controlled a large portion of the game.
Dylan Brown scored the first goal in the second minute, and the Eels led 22-4 at halftime with to goals from Jake Tago, Kelma Tuilagi, and Joash Papalii.
The Knights started the second half quickly, with goals from Logan Aoake and Kyle McCarthy within minutes and Jermaine McEwen shortly before the hour to cut the deficit to four points.
However, that was all she wrote for the home team, as Parramatta won 44-18 after scoring four goals in a row in the last 20 minutes, including a spectacular aerial effort from Samuel Loizou.
After a preseason with so many changes, stand-in captain Dylan Brown told Fox League after the game that he was relieved to win.
“Loved the energy – whenever something went wrong, the players all got around each other and we had some fun,” according to him.
