A significant presidential ally, whose organisation has worked in secrecy, likewise accuses USAid of fraud without providing any supporting proof.

As it pushed its way through the federal government, Elon Musk claimed in the Oval Office on Tuesday that his so-called “department of government efficiency” (Doge) was delivering maximum transparency. However, his claims were in stark contrast to the fact that he has been conducting business in extreme secrecy.
Musk spent his time standing next to Donald Trump at the Resolute Desk defending the harsh cost-cutting initiatives the Doge team has pursued. It was the first time he had been asked questions by the press media since arriving in Washington.
Musk boldly claimed, without providing any proof, that “quite a few people” in the government had “managed to accrue tens of millions of dollars in net worth while they are in that position” and that some executives at the now-defunct USAid had been accepting “kickbacks.”
His assertion that the Doge team had been open and honest about its actions while it swept through nearly 20 agencies, removing career officials who obstructed his path and gaining access to critical data systems, was the most shocking.
In reference to Doge’s posts on X, Musk stated, “We are actually trying to be as transparent as possible.” Therefore, every action we take is as transparent as possible. As far as I’m aware, no organisation has ever been more open than the Doge organisation.
