
According to a statement from the military’s media department, General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), received a ceremonial guard of respect while in the UK.
According to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief will attend the seventh Regional Stabilisation Conference at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and give the keynote address on “The Emerging World Order and Pakistan’s Future Outlook.”
The yearly gathering brings together military and civilian politicians, as well as representatives of well-known think tanks from both nations, to facilitate military discussions between Pakistan and the UK and promote cooperation.
According to the statement, “the COAS will engage with key members of the UK’s civil and military leadership to discuss matters of mutual interest.” He will meet with UK National Security Advisor Jonathan Nicholas Powell, British Army General Sir Roland Walker, and Chief of Defence Staff UK Adm Toney Radikon.
In order to address common issues and promote closer cooperation, the army commander will also meet with Home Secretary Yvette Cooper.
Pakistan and the United Kingdom have a long history of close diplomatic, economic, and security relations. According to the statement, the armies of the two nations have always maintained strong collaboration throughout the years, especially in the areas of professional training and counterterrorism.
Additionally, Gen. Munir will tour key British Army units, such as the 1st Strike Brigade and the Land Warfare Centre, where he will be briefed on the operational plans and modernisation projects of the UK Army.
The visit reaffirms Pakistan and the UK’s shared commitment to regional security and world peace, highlighting their long-standing friendship.
In May of last year, the army commander met with General Sir Patrick Sanders, his British counterpart, to examine ways to improve bilateral defence relations.
In a previous meeting with British Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for the Middle East, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, Hamish Falconer, in Portugal, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stated his intention to strive for stronger ties with the UK.
