According to a Rescue 1122 official, the fire that broke out inside a restaurant in Karachi’s Do Darya neighbourhood, phase 8 of the Defence Housing Authority, on Wednesday has been put out.
In a statement, the rescue organisation said that the fire had been contained and that “the cooling process is underway.”
The restaurant was not open when the fire started, according to Rescue-1122 officer Hassaan Khan, who spoke to Dawn.com. Two fire tenders were sent out at first, he continued, but “two more fire tenders were called after realising the severity of the problem.”
Khan claimed that the restaurant’s wooden structure contributed to the fire’s quick spread and tenacity. After frantic efforts that lasted for one and a half hours, four tenders were able to contain the fire.
The building was totally demolished. But it was not possible to determine the precise origin of the fire right away,” he continued.
The fire started in an abandoned restaurant in Do Darya, according to South Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Syed Asad Raza, who also stated that police promptly sealed off the scene.
“For the past four to five years, the restaurant has been closed.”
“As soon as the Central Command and Control Rescue 1122 received the information, the fire and rescue team along with ambulance and fire brigade truck reached the spot,” according to a previous statement from the rescue organisation.
The Edhi Foundation, meanwhile, reported in a statement that their rescue crew and ambulances were on the scene.
Rimpa Plaza on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi caught fire last year, but no one was hurt.
Rescue 1122 said in a statement that as soon as they were notified about the incident at Rimpa Plaza, their fire and rescue crew, two ambulances, four fire engines, and a snorkel arrived on the scene on December 3.
According to the rescue agency, the fire began on the fourth floor of the 13-story building, and it was difficult to put out “because of improper ventilation” in the structure.
Eventually, the fire was put out after several hours of work.
The same structure was said to have experienced another fire on December 19, 2024. According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaan Khan, the fire started on the second-story roof where disposable items were kept.
He pointed out that the second story, where gutted materials, including rubber, from the December 3 fire were kept, caught fire once more.
