38 Passengers were killed when the Azerbaijan Airlines aircraft crashed in Russian airspace on Christmas Day.
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, apologised to the president of adjacent Azerbaijan for the downing of a commercial aeroplane in Russian airspace, which claimed 38 lives. However, he did not directly blame Russia for the incident.
Putin stated the “tragic incident” had happened when Russian air defence systems were actively resisting Ukrainian drones in his initial remarks over the Christmas Day crash.
According to reports, the aircraft was forced to veer across the Caspian Sea after being shot down by Russian air defence systems while attempting to land in Chechnya.
Of the 67 people on board, 38 were killed when it crashed into Kazakhstan.
